Celebrate Matariki with Toi Tauranga Art Gallery and Te Tuhi Mareikura Trust’s matARiki Sculpture Trail.
Taking inspiration from these incredible digital sculptures, we’ve created a school holiday programme where tamariki (children) will design and create their own Matariki themed masterpiece. The groundbreaking, free, and interactive augmented reality (AR) matARiki Sculpture Trail brings together traditional and mātauranga Māori, with modern digital technology. Be sure to bring your smart device to see it in all its glory!
Tamariki will make a small waka hoe (paddle), using colour theory and different paint techniques to bring their artwork to life. They’ll then work with a variety of other media to attach pattern and detail to the handle.
Choose from one of the six sessions below:
  • Tue 7 Jul, 10am–12pm: 6–9 years old
  • Tue 7 Jul, 1–3pm: 8–10 years old
  • Wed 8 Jul, 10am–12pm: 6–9 years old
  • Wed 8 Jul, 1–3pm,: 5–8 years old
  • Thu 9 Jul, 10am–12pm: 10–12 years old
  • Thu 9 Jul, 1–3pm: 5–12 years old
For children aged 5–12 years, at $25 per child, we’ve got your Matariki school holidays sorted. We can’t wait to see you there!

An afternoon with Deborah Wai Kapohe

Inachord Singers Tauranga are proud to invite you to a warm, community‑minded afternoon with Southland soprano treasure Deborah Wai Kapohe. Deborah will share stories from her extensive and varied professional career — a life lived across opera, contemporary Māori music, musical theatre, songwriting, guitar performance, arts leadership, and law. Bring a cushion (though seats provided!) and your favourite mug to maximise feeling at home, and settle into a relaxed, family‑friendly atmosphere as she opens the door to her creative world with humour, insight, and generosity. Following an intensive workshop the day prior, the afternoon will also feature a small selection of songs from both Deborah Wai Kapohe and Inachord Singers Tauranga, offering a gentle touch of live music to complement the storytelling. With afternoon tea available, free tickets for children under twelve and a portion of proceeds supporting local charities, this gathering promises inspiration, wonder, beauty, and through fellowship, genuine community spirit. Come for the stories, stay for the songs, leave with connection.
