The Picture Project

The Picture Project is now on display in the Pop-up Ceramic Gallery (21 Devonport Rd)

To create The Picture Project, individuals from the Bay of Plenty community were invited to submit one digital image that was meaningful to them and that they think best summed up their environment, particularly as a response to Covid 19 and the resultant ‘lockdowns’.

Composer/artist, Warwick Blair, has collated all of the photos, reinterpreting each one into sound using a computer programme. He then compiled all of the sounds to create one unique sound.

In turn, the photos are superimposed by designer and communications/artist, Leanne Matthews, to create one unique image.

The combination of the unique sound and unique image are called the “ultimate representation or expression of environment”. In this sense, participants are contributing to create a work that is unique to the Bay of Plenty community and consisting of NZ content.

Their work was made possible by an arts mini-grant provided by TECT and Creative Bay of Plenty.

We are proud to display it as part of the Activate Vacant Spaces Programme for all to enjoy.
