Hearing the words “The Hop House” may ring a bell for some people. This is because just two years ago it was one of Mount Maunganui’s most popular craft beer houses. Even The Lonely Planet awarded it their top pick in The Mount in 2017! Well, we have some great news for all those craft beer and great food lovers out there…. The Hop House is back!
Owner David Stanway is passionate about quality and experience and is already delivering it in spades. It was 3pm on a Thursday when I went to see him on Wharf Street and there were already big groups gathering in the cosy courtyard at the back of the bar and out front in the sunshine.
The interior has a unique feel with quirky posters combined with different shades of wood, vines and pockets of seating where you can have a little more privacy or even a meeting with colleagues. I could see that one of the things that makes The Hop House stand out from other bars is the fact they are one of the only bars that sell Garage Project craft beers. David describes them as the “rock star brewers of NZ”. Makes me want to try it!
They have only been open for two weeks on Wharf Street and we highly recommend heading to The Hop House for quality drinks, handcrafted and locally made small plates and live music. Keep an eye out for their popular 'meet the brewer' events!
