The city centre Pop Up Park will be given new life this month!
Nationally renowned local artist Shane Walker has been commissioned to paint a large three dimensional mural at the Pop Up Park on Devonport Road, Tauranga. The artwork will be designed to beautify the space, uplifting it to be an exciting and enjoyable space for people to relax in the city centre.
The project is a collaboration between Downtown Tauranga and Tauranga City Council, with sponsorship from Resene. Part of the process will involve a community paint day on Saturday the 14th July! Everyone is invited to help us paint the walls, lettering, furniture and pillars with base colours in preparation for Shane weaving his magic. There will be a paint station for kids too, their creations will be added to the Pop Up Park!
A bit of history
The origional Pop Up Park was created as a temporary space for the public to sit and relax in the city centre. In October 2016, 5 artists were commissioned by Creative Bay of Plenty to create artwork on the existing walls and pillars.
We're so excited to now have the opprtunity to give the Pop Up Park some much needed tlc and create something stunning for the whole community to enjoy.
