There is a new mural in our city centre! The Pop Up Park on Devonport Road has been transformed overnight to become a work of art, and a fantastic space for people to sit, relax and enjoy in Downtown Tauranga.
Local artist Shane Walker has created a stunning 4-panel piece of art as part of a project to rejuvenate the Pop Up Park. Shane says "I wanted to create a spot where people can go to unwind. I find that landscapes have a calming effect and so I wanted to bring nature back into a bustling industrial zone. You’ll see there are hints to protecting our native Kauri trees and natural water sources included in the artwork too".
The 'Devonport Reserve' mural is a perfect backdrop for photos and was created as part of a series of 'love notes' to our city centre. Many people have taken photos with the colourful and interactive Wings to Fly mural on The Strand, and the Love Seat in Masonic Park. These Love notes were lovingly commissioned by Mainstreet Downtown Tauranga.
The Pop Up Park project is a Mainstreet Downtown Tauranga project, in collaboration with Tauranga City Council and Shane Walker. The paint was sponsored by Resene.
