KELLY AT 'CRANIUMS'

When I think of ‘Craniums’, I don’t just picture a toy shop, I picture Kelly dressed up as a Fairy for Matariki, or as Mrs Clause during the festive season. As a mum I go to ‘Craniums’ to find a gift for my children or their friends because of the excellent and honest advice I’m given on what to buy, the always friendly staff, and the shop’s range of fun, classic toys, and educational toys for kids! It’s a struggle to go there and not buy something, my most recent purchase being a giant bubble kit…. It must be my inner child; I don’t know if the gift is for my 1-year-old or for me if I’m honest.

I get a sense that Kelly and her staff have a real and true passion for what they do so I went and had a chat to Kelly to find out more.

It turns out I was right….. Kelly absolutely loves dressing up and has an extensive background in early childhood education, the perfect combination for working at Craniums selling educational toys. If you’ve ever lived in Whangarei you may have heard of Kelly Bellybutton, the children’s birthday party entertainer….. none other than Kelly from ‘Craniums’! She would dress up as a superhero, clown, princess, fairy and more. When the owner of Whanarei toy shop ‘Story Time’ discovered Kelly and realised that she is trained in early childhood education, she decided she needed Kelly on her team and so Kelly started her journey in the toy industry.

Kelly has been with the ‘Craniums’ team for almost 4 years in Downtown Tauranga…. previously named ‘Clever Kids’ and rebranding in 2020 to ‘Craniums’. Kelly loves creating a fun and educational environment for children and families, she says “both myself and other staff members here at ‘Craniums’ have experience in toy shops, early childhood education and I've worked with children who have special needs. We can match a toy with a child and make it a personalised experience. We’re passionate about helping children learn through play”.
