Tauranga Art Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition Lisa Chandler: The Dividing Line. Initially staged at Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei, Leipzig and exhibited at The Suter in Nelson, Aigantighe in Timaru and Expressions in Upper Hutt.
Lisa Chandler: The Dividing Line is an exhibition of over 30 tactile paintings reference both street art and protest paraphernalia gleaned from various protests and rallies. Chandler’s works are informed by her seasonal movements between New Zealand and Germany. These transnational shifts have heightened her awareness of differences in how each respective country does and does not acknowledge their complex past. Channelling all of these concerns through painting, Chandler questions the role that art can have in both remembering and participating in social change, during a time when the one certainty is a continual cycle of unrest.
