Professional Photographer Kerry Hutchison won second place in this year’s Trustpower Photographic Exhibition. Below Kerry shares her photography journey and the inspiration behind her winning image.
How long have you been interested in photography?
I've had an interest in photography for many years but my real passion for it started about 7 years ago, just after the birth of my daughter. I started taking photos of her as a baby (as you do being first time parents), then for family and friends. This eventually developed into a small business that I ran from my home. I have a huge passion for photographing children.
What made you enter the Trustpower Photographic Exhibition?
When I read that the theme was 'home', I immediately thought of a couple of photos that I wanted to enter. The 'Sandcastles at sunset' image was one of my favourites so I was so pleased it made the top 20. I wanted to capture a moment that we were enjoying in that time. We moved to the Mount for a better lifestyle - especially for my daughter. Watching her making sandcastles late one summer evening on the beach just filled me with so much joy. This was now our home!
How do you feel winning 2nd Place?
I was just blown away by the quality of images that made the top 20, so to have come in 2nd place...well...it was a huge surprise! I feel so honored, really. I'm so grateful to all the sponsors that helped put this event together. Thank you!
