Hammon Diamond Jeweller

Hammon Diamond Jeweller is a family owned business located in the heart of Downtown Tauranga. They sell fine jewellery, watches and giftware tastefully selected in NZ and around the world. We wanted to hear from Julie and Alexandra, leaders of their team at Hammon Diamond Jeweller...to get an understanding of their taste and style, and where their passion for Jewellery came from....

What is your favourite piece of jewellery and why?

A. I’m sure many women will agree when I say I have many favourite pieces for different reasons.  Jewellery is often received as a gift to mark an occasion or celebration (or passed down) by someone special in our lives.

J. My platinum diamond wedding band for obvious reasons!

What new trend/s in jewellery are you loving?

A. The symbolic gestures behind Swarovski’s latest Remix collection.  It’s delicate and edgy at the same time.

J. I particularly love the mixing of different metal colours which gives so much versatility to your jewellery collection.

What’s the number one rule when wearing jewellery?

A. Be uniquely you.  Ultimately, accessorising with jewellery is a gorgeous way to express yourself, so I say go with your mood.  But a good rule I live by and advise my clients to do for a piece’s longevity – make it the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

J. These days we say make your own rules.

What’s the oldest piece of treasured jewellery you own?

A. A beautiful vintage gold necklet with seed pearls, pink tourmalines and peridot.  It has been passed down from generations on my mum’s side of the family when a loved one turns 21.  If this piece of jewellery could talk, the stories it would tell!

J.  A gold bangle gifted to me on my 14th birthday by a favourite great aunt.

Silver or Gold?

A. Platinum, silver, rose gold, yellow gold, white gold – yes to all, and yes to wearing them all at once too.

Diamonds or Pearls?

A. Absolutely both.

J. Both please.

What’s your weekend jewellery wardrobe like?

A. A melting pot of modern and gypsy, layering fine with fashion.

J. Generally watch free, but depending on the occasion, diamond hoop earrings and Swarovski bracelets.

If you could only wear one piece of jewellery today, what would it be?

A. Very difficult to narrow down to one piece, would have to start with my diamond engagement ring.

J. My platinum diamond wedding band.

What do you love most about the industry?

A. The evolution of jewellery, design concepts, metals, gemstones, it’s never boring and the creativeness of it all inspires me.  Not to mention working with my best friend and Mum daily, I love the fact we have over 70 years family history within the industry, it’s something I’m pretty proud of.

J. My family’s long history in the industry and the ever-changing challenges and rewards of being a retail jeweller.
