City Centre Projects

There are a number of exciting projects and plans happening right across our city centre that, together, are helping to transform it into a place that we can all be proud of.

Tauranga’s city centre is going through a significant transformation, with around 30 catalyst developments underway or in the pipeline that will help make it a great place to live, work, visit, and play.  As the city centre transforms, visitors from near and far will be able to experience some of the region’s most sought after restaurants, cafes and bars, boutique shopping and art and culture a plenty. There will also be more outdoor spaces for community events and for people to simply enjoy spending time with whanau and friends.

A major project set to get the heart of our city pumping again is the Civic Precinct development - Te Manawataki o Te Papa (the heartbeat of Te Papa), which will include facilities such as a library and community hub, civic whare (public meeting space), exhibition gallery and museum that will offer direct access to our city’s taonga and heritage collection. Other key projects include the Northern Quarter, with office and hospitality workspaces, and the waterfront transformation that will include a new playground, additional event spaces and an extended waterfront pathway.
