15 December 2017
I went on a mission this week to find Christmas treats in our city centre. What I found had me salivating! Christmas is just 10 days away – breathe, 10 days is plenty of time to get everything together… right?! If you’re in that popular boat of needing to do last minute shopping for the big day, then don’t fret. I discovered many hidden foodie gems, perfect for the silly season.
For starters… café’s such as Dry Dock on Wharf Street, Robert Harris on Willow Street, and The Mediterranean Café on Devonport Road have the best Christmas mince pies! There’s nothing like a spicy sweet pastry to make you feel like Christmas is here.
When I walked in the door of Coffix on Spring Street, I was welcomed by a smiley and bubbly Danielle… and the smell of freshly ground coffee. I quickly noticed a wrapped gift package behind the counter. Danielle tells me “there’s a reusable coffee cup, chocolate coated coffee beans, plus a coffee and food voucher inside”. My first thought was - this is the perfect secret Santa present.
Christmas may just be a kid’s dream come true… chocolate in the morning, colourful wrapping paper to destroy, Santa… and food that looks like Santa. Pluto on Devonport Road has you covered with their Santa fro-yos, available up until Christmas day.
For the adults… CBK in Red Square have a Christmas special running on Monday it's Magnificent Seven – 7 items for $7 each, including this epic burger!
CBK is new to Tauranga this year and they are consistently busy, particularly in their outdoor area with people enjoying the sunshine in good company. I can see why!
And for those last minute, fresh items, Downtown Tauranga has organised a Christmas Night Market in the city centre, on Thursday 21 December from 5-8pm in Goddard’s Shopping Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity to buy locally made, unique gifts. There will be all sorts, from chocolate truffles, to soaps you want to eat they smell so good, flowers, clothing and more.
Our city is bursting at the seams with Christmas treats and plenty of gift ideas. Come and explore!
P.S. 10 days is plenty of time...
