Gengy’s Tauranga – Mongolian BBQ Buffet Restaurant is our city centre’s only ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT restaurant and I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been to a restaurant where you get to choose your own flavours, meats, vegetables, watch the chefs cook it right before your eyes AND get to go back for more! The whole dining experience at Gengy’s is fun, especially with a group of friends or family. Whenever we eat there it seems to turn into a show and tell… who made the best BBQ stirfry? Everyone is a chef.
I had the privilege of meeting Andy and Danny, co-owners of Gengy’s on Durham Street. Andy has been there for 7 years and said that it was a bit scary opening his own business, he was afraid he would fail…. however, he soon learnt that the restaurant business is constantly changing, and you must change with it, this has been one of his keys to a successful business. He and Danny both said how much they enjoy watching the customer create their own recipe and that their food is known for being fresh, healthy and without any additives.
What is Andy and Danny’s favourite flavour combination?
Andy: marinated chicken otherwise known as ‘volcano chicken’ with hot chilli, soy, honey, sesame oil, garlic, olives and jalapenos with rice and lots of vegetables.
Danny: pork and sausage with veges and a sauce made up of chilli, jalapenos, pepper and chilli powder – not for the faint hearted.
