An After Dark experience for the whole family

5 May 2022

I’m always looking for fun activities for our family to enjoy in the weekend. If light installations, interaction, walking, eating, and creating are involved, well you’ve ticked a lot of boxes already!

After Dark Urban Light Festival is hitting the streets of Tauranga City Centre on the 13th of May and is the perfect (nearly winter) experience for families. What is it? Our city’s walls will become canvases for creative imagery, outdoor spaces will transform with illuminated installations, and empty shops will house light installations that will wow you.

Make a night of it and start your evening at The Pottery Studio where you can learn to make a ceramic art piece and get stuck into the creative flow of the evening. This is so much fun and sure to get the family laughing…. and concentrating! Head down Devonport Road towards The Strand and watch out for light installations as they are turned on from 5:30pm.

Stop in at CBK Craft Bar in Red Square for dinner….Kids have a wide selection of options including a Cheese Burger and Fries, the Flinstone Grill Plate and Ice-Cream Sundae. I recommend the Classic Stonegrill options for dad, and for mum....the Summer Soba Salad or Smoked Chicken Pesto and Bacon Linguine.

Next head to the Tauranga Waterfront for a highlight of the light trail. After enjoying the display head up Grey Street for more installations and finally land at But First Dessert where you will make the kids VERY happy with an entire dessert menu.

Don’t forget on Saturday the 14th of May, $1000 worth of city centre vouchers are being given away at the Waterfront to celebrate After Dark Urban Light Festival…. Be there to be in to win from 7pm – 8pm.
