Janet Barratt - ‘Trapped’
Prize: $5000 cash plus photo profiles in UNO. Magazine & The Weekend Sun
Judges comment: Of all the photos I looked at, this one made me feel the most intense emotion. What a beautiful, honest and authentic image where the photographer has found beauty even in captivity, it is such a raw and true moment.
Chris Taylor - ‘Strictly for the Birds’
Prize: $3000 cash plus photo profiles in UNO. Magazine & The Weekend Sun
Judges comment: I love the energy and movement in this picture. Many of the images entered were beautiful but static. This image really stood out because of the feeling of energy that it has captured and the story that it tells. It’s about the beauty of raw nature.
Joshua Hodgson - ‘Military Display on Waitangi Day’
Prize: $2000 cash plus photo profiles in UNO. Magazine & The Weekend Sun
Judges comment: The uniformity of the sailors - their clothes, equipment and features - plays the perfect foil to the jumbled crowd of spectators. There's plenty here to remind us of the history of our country and what it means to us. The formality of the event is lifted by the humour of this shot. The more you look, the more you smile.
