Tauranga Food Co-Op

26 May 2022

Tauranga Food Co-Op’s mission is to make healthy food accessible without the use of plastic and using as little packaging as possible. Maleta, Catherine and the team have just opened in a new shop right in the heart of the city centre and have created a lovely space for the community to access local produce and products.

As a not-for-profit the Tauranga Food Co-Op is mostly run by passionate volunteers who give at least 2 hours of their time per month to help run the shop, package up bulk foods and receive deliveries. Catherine is one of these volunteers who is praised as being the “splitting manager”, spending hours sorting, organising, and packaging down bulk products. Maleta is the team leader and main co-ordinator of the co-op, described as “our everything” by Catherine.

If you work in the city, love the idea of buying local produce, reducing the use of plastic and single-use packaging, and want to be part of this community, then Maleta and the team welcome you to become a member! If you want to purchase some of their goodies such as chocolate, fruit, vegetables, tea, toilet paper, and beauty products, then head to their shop in the Piccadilly Arcade between 10am and 2pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
